Beckham: “I Dreamed of Messi Staying in Miami, But He Wants to Return to Barcelona”

“The Barcelona Crest on His Leg”

David Beckham, one of the principal owners of Inter Miami, has revealed Lionel Messi’s long-term plan to eventually leave the United States and return to Barcelona someday.

What’s the Story?

Inter Miami recently announced an extension of Messi’s contract until December 31, 2025, with an option to extend for another 12 months, ensuring his presence during the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States.

Previously, co-owner Jorge Mas commented:
“We will sit down with Leo to discuss his future. I expect him to be with us when we open our new stadium in 2026.”

What Did Beckham Say?

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star shared:
“I would love for Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but he told me he’s thinking about living near Camp Nou. No player loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the club’s crest tattooed on his leg and even on his water bottle.”

“America is the Land of Opportunity”

Beckham continued:
“The United States is a strong country and one of the best in offering opportunities to everyone. That’s what happened to me when I first came here. Now, I sit in Miami, on my chair, watching Leo walk onto the field, and I feel incredibly proud.”

How Is Messi Spending His Time With Inter Miami?

Inter Miami is currently preparing for the upcoming season, with the MLS set to resume in February. Messi is expected to play a key role in the team’s efforts to build on their successes from last season while continuing to captivate fans in the U.S.
